If you are moving to Okotoks and not sure which area would suit you best, I have compiled an in-depth look at each area of Okotoks. This post is about Sheep River and I will work alphabetically through the communities over the weeks ahead.
About Sheep River
Sheep River is a quiet and sought after riverside neighbourhood with many high-end properties backing to the environmental reserve. You will also find pleasant walking paths through the community and along the river. Sheep River is conveniently located close to Big Rock Elementary School.
Sheep River Home Styles
Sheep River has a number of high end homes overlooking green space or the Sheep River. You will also find some smaller single family “starter” homes as well as villas. Building began around 1992 and the most recent phases, Sheep River Heights and Sheep River Cove, are in the latter stages of completion. There is a feeling of wide open spaces, influenced by the walking paths along the river and throughout the community.
Close to Shops and Restaurants
Sheep River is very well located for all of Okotoks’ wonderful shopping solutions. You can find the big stores such as Wal-mart, Canadian Tire and Sobeys Grocery Store, Safeway, drug stores, Staples, a Strip Mall including: Hallmark, Marks Work Wear, M&M Meat Shops, Reitmans, Pet store etc. There is also a number of banks, restaurants, gas stations and plenty of fast food options. There is a second large shopping area, “Southbank”, which is just a short drive from Sheep River and offers Costco, Home Depot, Michaels, Winners and Dollar Store. This area is still very much under development with more large stores, restaurants and a Best Western hotel now open (2014).
